New Member Letter

Thank you for your interest in joining Minnetonka Yacht Club (MYC). We would like to share with you some history and other great reasons to be a member of this outstanding club.

Founded in 1882, MYC is one of the oldest yacht clubs in the country. Current members include a United States Junior National Champion, an Olympic Gold Medalist, a Head Coach for the US Olympic Sailing Team and winners of countless National, North American and World Championships in a variety of sailboat classes. We are very proud of our many current distinguished sailors as well as those from decades past.

MYC is not only a place for sailors, but a landing spot for many who want to enjoy a club experience and participate in an exciting social schedule. Located on beautiful Lighthouse Island (LHI) on Lake Minnetonka, our unique location is something you can’t find anywhere else. LHI and our Carson’s Bay Facility (located on Minnetonka Boulevard in Deephaven) provide beautiful lake front views in addition to a launching facility and slips, ramps and buoys for both sailboat and motorboat storage for members.

Pontoon shuttle service is offered before, during and after all MYC races and social events, with the exception of the Tuesday night A Scow races. The race pontoon operates from the base of Park Avenue in Deephaven and shuttles to and from Bug Island and the clubhouse on LHI. For social events, our shuttle service also runs from the Carson’s Bay facility.

The MYC sailing season runs from early May through late September. Fleets race Saturday and Sunday mornings and afternoons and Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. In addition to club series and cup races, MYC hosts a number of class championship regattas every summer, adding to our well attended social schedule.

The Northome Series on Wednesday evenings includes unique race courses which start and finish near LHI. Our popular “Grill & Chill” dinner is held every Wednesday evening at the clubhouse and is attended by a wide range of sailors, social members and kids alike. This is a favorite tradition of our most long standing members.

All members have access to the grounds of the club – you are welcome to enjoy our sand volleyball court, yard games and grills or just relax with family and friends on our newly updated patio, overlooking beautiful Lake Minnetonka. New this year is a swim platform for kids to play on and a “Snack Shack” open a few Saturdays this summer (link to social calendar) offering some light bites and beverages.

Thank you for your interest in MYC. Be sure to check out our membership applicationssocial schedule, and online store.  Should you need additional information, feel free to contact us.  We look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Terry Jewett
