Spring Opti Shake-down

Attention returning Opti sailors. The season is still a few weeks out, but for any interested Opti sailors, there will be a spring Opti shakedown next Saturday June 3rd. We will be leaving Opti dock promptly at 1:30. The plan will be to return at 3:30. This will be a great opportunity for everyone to get together and "tune up" before the start of the season. We will have a safety boat out on the water, but be aware that the water is still cold. Dress appropriately. Recommend that sailors bring usual sailing gear and water bottle / snacks if desired. Please note that this is NOT a coaching session and is only intended to get our experienced sailors out for boat tuning after a long winter. Any questions can be directed to Robert Zils at 612-636-7312.

USODA Team Trials 2017
Brant Beach Yacht Club, Long Beach Island, New Jersey.
By Jacob Zils

Windy, Cold, Challenging and Fun are the four best words to describe this USODA Team Trials! My name is Jacob Zils and I was recently at the 2017 Team Trials. This regatta was a four day event but for me lasted nine days. I arrived, with my mom, late on Friday night in New Jersey. My team and I, practiced on Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Our team took a lay day on Wednesday to clean our boats.

When the first day of the regatta came around on Thursday, May 11, I was super excited for my first Team Trials and didn’t have any high hopes placing wise. At the end of the day I finished in 85th out of 223! The 2nd day I dropped down a bit to 98th and by the day 4, Sunday, I finished 100th exactly. We are still hoping and waiting to see if I get invited to an international team, as there is one team left to seed and only a few people in line ahead of me. I had so much fun at this regatta and can't wait for my next team trials.  I enjoyed representing MYC at this event and am glad my fellow MYC Opti sailor, Jack Schuster was there as well. See you on Lake Minnetonka soon!
